LB's first big break on his journey to superstardom!!!!
The results are in......
LB lost 3 pounds!!!
LB now weighs 30 pounds. For the past 9 and 1/2 weeks, LB has eaten wet, non-carbohydrate Fancy Feast. He is not hungry, he eats as much as he wants, and he eats when he wants. He moves more, he has a waist, and his neck has thinned out.
Way to go, LB!!!! The 20s are right around the corner.
Looking good!

I discovered that LB's favorite scratching post is the leather furniture. Even though I have several cats, LB is the only one who scratches the furniture. So, it was time to figure out a solution. At first I covered the damaged areas with a sheet, but that only forced him to move to a new location.
After much research, I decided to try Soft Paws, which are nail caps that are applied to a cat's nail, eliminating any damage caused by scratching. Soft Paws are available in

I want to address using the correct litter box for a large cat.
Because of his size, LB does not fit into a regular size litter box. He is too long, and, due to his larger tummy, he cannot curl his body to keep pp in the litter box.
So, finding the correct size litter box became my mission. I went through three different litter boxes until I found the correct one.

I have seen so many changes in LB since he came home.
His mobility has increased tremendously. He never stops moving. He jumps on the furniture, both in the house and on the porch, He also jumps effortlessly on my bed. This is a vast improvement over when I brought him into the house. At that time, he had trouble walking more than a few steps, and he spent the majority of his time lying on the bed in the guest room. In order for him to reach the bed in the guest room, I had to teach him how to walk up a ramp. Once he learned that, he spent most of his time lying up on that bed.
It is easier for LB to groom himself now. Initially, he could only groom a small spot on the front of his chest - just the area his chin reached when he looked down. Now he can groom his shoulders and even his back feet! Seeing LB increase the amount he can groom has been such a pleasure. Cats love to groom, and LB is no exception.
LB now has a waist. There is a definite waistline appearing. He is getting an hourglass figure!
All these changes have been fun to watch, and LB never ceased to amaze me with his progress. Stayed tuned. I anticipate many more changes over the next few months.
When LB first came home, he was 33 lbs. He has now been on his new way of eating for the past 8 weeks. I have not weighed him since his initial weight. There are a couple of reasons why I have not yet weighed him.
The first is the stress that it causes him. I weighed LB in his crate, and then weighed the crate separately. That is how I got his initial weight. To do that again, I would have to put him in the crate, and I did not want to scare him or get him upset.
I was also going to hold him while I stepped on scale. I would get my weight while holding him and then weigh myself alone. But, I did not want to pick him up for any length of time as there is a lot of weight on his chest and he seems very uncomfortable.
Tomorrow, March 3d, I plan on bringing him to the vet where I can weigh him on their scale. Fingers crossed.
It has been 8 weeks since LB has come home, and the changes in him have been remarkable.
First, let me address his diet. He continues to eat Fancy Feast Shrimp and Fish Feast. He is allowed to each as much as he wants. When he first came home, he would eat about 4 cans of FF per day. That is fine with me as he is allowed to eat as much low carb food as he wants.
With the passage of time, he has reduced the amount of food he eats to about 2 to 2 1/2 cans of FF per day. I think the restriction of carbs has decreased his appetite naturally.
So, success with his new eating plan.
